Our commitment to sustainable development through the photovoltaic sector is carried out through the construction of 32 photovoltaic plants throughout the world to date (1,142 MWp in total), owned by either ACCIONA itself or by third parties.

Our vocation for innovation has made us pioneers in the installation of large photovoltaic plants with capacities greater than 1 MW. In 2001, we built the largest photovoltaic plant in Spain (Tudela, Navarre) at that time (1.2 MWp). From that moment on, the company has continued to further its research into photovoltaic energy and construct iconic plants such as Puerto Libertad (405 MWp), which generates clean energy in the middle of Mexico’s Sonoran desert.

Likewise, we built and currently operate the El Romero Solar photovoltaic plant (246 MWp) in the Atacama Desert (Chile), which generates clean energy equivalent to the demand of 240,000 Chilean homes and features a photovoltaic innovation hub where we help design the future of solar technology.

The latest solar photovoltaic power plants we have completed are three plants in Egypt (186 MWp) and three plants in Ukraine (57 MWp). We are currently building two photovoltaic plants in Chile, of 64 MWp and 62 MWp respectively, and we have just completed two more photovoltaic plants in Ukraine (44 MWp in total).

We use sunlight to produce the energy with which we’re fighting the climate emergency, leading the transition towards a low-carbon economy.

Electricity generated through solar photovoltaic panels is inexhaustible and clean, contributing to sustainable development in three different areas: economic, social, and environmental.
