ACCIONA wins accolade for in-house program to nurture talent, identify promising candidates for promotion, and give them the training they need to take on supervisory roles
ACCIONA has been honored with the “Education and Development Initiative of the Year” at the Innovation in Facility Management (FM) Awards 2022, which took place in Dubai on June 10th.
The award was in recognition for ACCIONA’s Supervisory Talents Excellence Program (STEP), developed in-house, which focuses on identifying promising candidates for promotion and giving them the necessary training to take on supervisory roles.
The initiative was introduced at ACCIONA’s Facility Management locations in the Middle East in response to the highly demanding nature of jobs in the healthcare sector, particularly during the global pandemic.
Luis Carlos Barroso, Middle East Director for the Facility Management business, said identifying future supervisors was important because “they influence the work of a huge number of people and they are, in fact, the link between management, front-line staff and the client.” ACCIONA’s STEP program, which trains future supervisors, embodied the best practices in facility management and helped to increase the efficiency of operations, he added.
Supervisors are responsible for the cleanliness, hygiene and safety of the hospitals under contract. ACCIONA has a strong presence in the hospital sector in Qatar. It undertakes the management of the cleaning and waste disposal systems in all hospitals owned by the Hamad Medical Corporation. ACCIONA also provides ancillary kitchen services at Hamad General Hospital and the new Hamad Medical City.
To ensure robust training and team leadership, ACCIONA ensures a structured approach to career development from entry-level jobs to the leadership suite, with the appropriate learning and development opportunities at each level.
