Our global presence

The Nexus consortium formed by ACCIONA, Ferrovial, Plenary Group and Transfield Services has been chosen as preferred bidder for the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of a 41 Km highway in Toowoomba (Queensland). The 25-year concession will require an investment of A$1.6 billion, which will deliver significant economic benefits for the region.

ACCIONA, a global infrastructure and renewable energy group, is a member of the Nexus consortium that has been named as preferred tenderer for the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of a 41 km highway in Toowoomba, Queensland, in Australia - the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

The Nexus consortium, formed by ACCIONA, Ferrovial, Plenary Group and Transfield Services, will deliver the A$1.6 billion project,   creating significant economic benefits for the region. The concession term is 25 years from construction completion, estimated in late 2018. The Nexus consortium, including Acciona, will now work closely with the Queensland Government to finalise contractual documentation.

The 41km highway will bypass the city of Toowoomba, and will improve traffic conditions in the region, in particular reducing the number of heavy vehicles travelling through the Toowoomba city centre. The project will support local employment and the local supply chain.

On successful completion of all contractual documents, this project will strengthen ACCIONA’s presence in the Australian market.

ACCIONA, as part of the Transcity consortium, recently completed the  A$1.5 billion Legacy Way tunnel in Brisbane, construction of which broke daily, weekly and monthly world tunneling records.

The Transcity joint venture, (comprised of ACCIONA, Ghella - Italian tunnelling company- and Brisbane-based BMD Constructions), won a number of accolades during the execution of Legacy Way. These included Infrastructure Partnerships Australia “Project of the Year 2015” award for “changing Australia’s approach to tunnelling projects”, the 2014 International Road Federation Award - Environmental and Community Mitigation Winner, the 2014 International Association of Public Participation Award - Community Relations Winner, and the 2013 International Tunnelling Award – Major Tunnelling Project Winner.

ACCIONA Australia also won the prestigious Lord Mayor’s 2012 Award for Business Innovation, in recognition of its technical excellence.
