The contract to design and construct this bridge was awarded in 2016 to ACCIONA’s joint-venture.The project consisted of a 1.5 km bridge to improve communications via the Pacific Highway that connects Sydney and Brisbane.
ACCIONA has received the “Award for Excellence” in the New South Wales region for the design and construction of the bridge over the Clarence River at Harwood, Australia.
This award, presented by the Concrete Institute of Australia to the ACCIONA consortium, was collected by Sebastián Bogaczyk, Construction Manager for the project, together with other members of the team.
The $250 million contract to design and construct this bridge was awarded in July 2016 to ACCIONA in a joint-venture with another Spanish partner.
The bridge is 1.5 km long and has four traffic lanes. It is also 30 metres high to allow river traffic to pass underneath.
It’s design and construction, which was completed in May 2019, is part of the Woolgoolga-Ballina Pacific project, financed by the Australian Government and the New South Wales Government, with a total budget of $4.36 billion.
This project helps to improve communications along the Pacific Highway that connects Sydney and Brisbane, two of the country’s most important cities, improving safety on this road, reducing travel time and increasing transport efficiency in the region.
As part of this same improvement plan for the Pacific Highway, this ACCIONA joint-venture also constructed a new 19.5 km section of highway between Warrell Creek and Nambucca, which is used by around 15,000 people every day.The contract included construction of a bridge over the River Nambucca in Macksville, two bridges in Warrell Creek and two intersections.
