- Silver Award for Best Transport Project at the inaugural edition of the Partnerships Bulletin PPP Awards in Sydney.
ACCIONA’s Toowoomba Second Range Crossing project in Queensland, Australia, has won the Silver Award for Best Transport Project at the inaugural edition of the Partnerships Bulletin PPP Awards in Sydney.
The AUD 1.6 billion project is being delivered via the Nexus Joint Venture, and will bring numerous benefits in terms of regional economic development, employment and supply chain opportunities and training and skills development. In addition to up to 1,800 full-time jobs during the construction and maintenance, the project is expected to increase economic activity in the region by $2.4 billion over 30 years while diverting almost 80% of heavy and super-heavy commercial vehicles away from the existing range crossing.
The Awards judges considered the project to be a great example of a successful PPP managing a significant government contribution towards the construction costs. They were also pleased to see the significant engagement of the local community, which helped to develop broader social benefits for the project, adding that this had delivered some excellent outcomes.
